Abstract
Among 101 healthy females chosen from outpatient clinic, 16 strains of Corynebacterium vaginale were isolated from vaginal discharge with Casman¢¥s medium by candle jar method.
Clue cells positive cases exhibited a slightly higher rate of isolation (24.4% ) than negative ones(13. 7%) and most of the isolated strains showed predominant growth forming numerous minute colonies on Casman¢¥s isolation plates as compared to other contaminants.
Some of the strains were able to grow on nutrient agar, Sabouraud dextrose agar and Kligler iron medium, and sugar fermenting pattern were diverse in character but starch was only fermented in tryptose base medium. Isolated strains were somewhat sensitive to penicillin and chlorampenicol but diverse its pattern against other drugs: L heir biochemical activities, such as catalase,, indol and nitrate reduction were all inert.
